Choosing a fire proofing contractor in Dubai affects how safe your building is and whether it passes inspection. This guide lists what to check before you hire.
What a fire proofing contractor does
A fire proofing contractor applies protection to structural steel and concrete so a building keeps standing during a fire. The main systems are intumescent coating and cementitious fireproofing. See our fireproofing services.
Five checks before you hire
- Civil defence approval. Ask for proof the company is approved by Dubai Civil Defence, or by the authority in your emirate.
- The system and the rating. The contractor should name the system and the fire resistance period it will achieve, for example 60, 90 or 120 minutes.
- The steel sections. Quotes should be based on your drawings and steel sections, not a flat guess.
- Surface preparation. Ask how the steel is prepared before coating.
- A written quote. It should list areas, systems and thickness.
Common mistakes
- Choosing on price alone without checking the fire rating.
- Using a system that does not suit where the steel is, visible or hidden.
- Not asking for approvals in writing.
